Time Warner Cable hosts STEM event today at N.C. State Fair
10/18/2011: .

As part of its philanthropic focus to connect more students with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities and careers, Time Warner Cable will host a full day of hands-on, real-world STEM demonstrations today at the N.C. State Fair.

The UNC Morehead Planetarium and Science Center's NC Science Festival, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, FRC robotics teams from Apex and Cary, and the News 14 Carolina Meteorology Team's Weather On the Ones Weather Station will lead demonstrations at the Time Warner Cable - News 14 Carolina booth next to J.S. Dorton Arena throughout the day.

The continuous programming, scheduled for every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., is a collaborative effort to engage students and their families in the importance of STEM. The presenting organizations are Connect a Million Minds (CAMM) recipient grant organizations, part of Time Warner Cable's $100 million, five-year philanthropic focus to connect one million students with STEM activities outside the classroom.

"Time Warner Cable is proud to highlight valued, local CAMM partners and the new News 14 Carolina Weather Station ? utilizing the size and scope of the NC State Fair ? to engage young fairgoers in STEM education," says Christine Whitaker, area vice president for the Eastern North Carolina area. "Our N.C. State Fair featured partners will demonstrate how STEM education translates into careers in the natural sciences, chemistry, and meteorology, and how high school students draw from computer science and engineering courses to build robots for competitive events."
